Test Driving the Renault Twizy, Electric Car for 2012

We had fortune to test drive the Renault Twizy at last year’s LeWeb in Paris. The Twizy is one of a fleet of electric ‘eco’ cars that Renault will be releasing this year.

The Twizy looks like a cross between a Smart Car and a roller skate with room for one person and a small bag. A small storage function is behind the seat but as you can see in the video, we struggled to get my laptop bag in behind the seat even before we had pushed it back.

The car is designed to be light which may not be as favourable in wet conditions. The lack of doors seen in the video is just for demonstration purposes, the official videos show a Twizy with supports rather than full doors.

Whilst the car was nippy on the little track it was not so comfortable with even the smallest bumps in the road which may be a factor of its weight. The car was fun to drive but I can’t see me driving this first version – the lack of even basic space for baggage is an issue as is the lack of doors.

This is one of a number of new cars Renault is working on, including cars with dedicated Renault Tablet computers.
